I went a little crazy yesterday

Yesterday was just one of those days. I needed to do several errands. But right before we are ready to leave, Prince hangs his pinky toe on a door. He had already hurt it two nights before by bending it back. So as he is bawling, I call my sister and she graciously agrees to watch the kids while I go.

I first went to the library. I love going to the library alone. I get to wander and meander and take my time. I even found "The Shack" yesterday that my DH has been wanting to read. It was put out by mistake because it had a ton of holds on it. But they let me have it since it was their mistake (don't you wish stores were like that?).

I go to Target to get a couple of things for the All About Spelling curriculum that I'm starting. I needed a 2'X3' magnetic white board and 2 3X5 index card holders. Well, struck out on both at Target. Nada. As I was leaving, I remember I had something in the van that I wanted to return. As I'm leaving, I notice there is no one in the Return line. Yay! I go into the rain, grab the bag, and come back. I swear, there was now a line of people returning stuff. And lucky me, there is a man returning stuff off of 5 different receipts. (sigh) I wait forever, finally get up there, and get my $$ back.

Now I have to go to Wal-Mart, my LEAST favorite place in the world. I go to the one I hardly ever go to since it's closer. Let me ask you a question...if you were just going in for office supplies, wouldn't you park on the regular Wal-Mart side, not the Food Center side? Makes sense, right? I park and go in, and wander around forever trying to find the office supplies. I can't find them!!! By this time, my back is hurting, and I seriously contemplate crying. I can't even find a hardworking, gracious Wal-Mart employee. As I stand in middle of an aisle, muttering to myself, I try to think like a Wal-Martian - where would I put office supplies if I was Wal-Mart? Oh, YEAH! I would put them in the FOOD CENTER!! I go over to the Food part, and sure enough, found the Office Supplies. Like I said, makes so much sense, right? Anyway, I did find the white board (Thank you, Wally World) and found ONE 3X5 index card box. I pick it up and notice it won't even close and catch. Of course. I go to the check-out, and guess who I'm behind? The 5-receipt man from Target! Of course. At least he was't returning anything. He did use a gift card, cash, and a debit card to pay for some Nyquil. Go figure.

So I call my sister in a panic, asking if she has any 3X5 card boxes laying around. She doesn't but assures me it's okay if I go and find one. So I go to Office Max. That's where I have a little meltdown. This is where I'm a little embarassed to admit how I acted. I go into Office Max straight to the index card aisle. There is ONE 3X5 index card box. I pick it up...and shake the lid up and down and it will NOT CATCH CLOSED! I said a not-so-nice word and slammed it down back on the shelf. I picked it back up again and THREW it on the shelf! Yes, I am embarassed. My only excuse is PMS.

I leave and go to another office supply store. They had only 2, with only one half-way working. I buy it. It will have to do for now.

I almost run out of gas on the way home.

I still didn't get to go to Michael's and get ebony pencils for out new Artistic Pursuits curriculum. And I didn't get to go into Lifeway and pick up our Fireproof movie copy that we pre-bought and got $10 gift cards (great deal and even better movie!). And the weather is nasty today. Oh, well. It can wait another week. :)

Kroger 1/21/08

I went coupon shopping at Kroger last night. I am going to list the deals I got.

* Buy 10 items get $5 off deal #1

~ 7 Green Giant Steamers - $1.59 each minus .50 coupon doubled = .59

~ 2 Tropicana Orange Juice - $2.99 each minus $1/2 coupon = $2.49 ea.

~ 1 Ken's Spray Salad Dressing - $1.99 minus $.50 doubled = .99

Total: about $10.20 minus $5 Deal = $5.20 out-of-pocket

* Buy 10 items get $5 off Deal #2

~ 2 Ken's Salad Dressing - $1.99 ea. minus $1/2 coupon = $1.49 each

~ 2 Fiber One Bars - $2.69 ea. minus $.50 coupon doubled = $1.69 ea.

~ 6 Kraft Cheese - $1.99 each minus .75 Blinkie coupon = $1.24 each

Total: $13.90 minus $5 Deal = $8.90 out-of-pocket

I would have saved an additional .75 cents on one of the Fiber One bars but my P&G eSaver coupon did not show up on my Kroger card in time. Oh, well.

*Note: I also had trouble using the Kraft cheese blinkie coupons I got while there. The computer would only take 2. And the cashier didn't want to give it to me. I pointed out that the coupon said it was for all Kraft 2% Milk Cheeses including shredded, sliced, cubes, etc. And that I was careful to follow what the coupon said. She relented, and gave it to me. I don't know what the problem was. There was nothing that said "Limit 2" or anything. The coupon did show only the bagged shredded cheese on front, but SAID it was for ALL types of cheese. I had 2 Shredded and the rest were Kraft American slices. I wouldn't usually "fight" for my coupons, but I really feel justified in standing my ground on that one. I followed all the rules! LOL! (I wasn't mean to her or anything. I just told her why I thought she should allow it).

At Kroger.com, you can sign up for Proctor and Gamble eSaver coupons that are loaded onto your card and will work in addition to regular coupons. You can also load Kroger coupons on there. If you use your phone number (Alternate ID) to sign up, which I had to since I have lost my Kroger card, be prepared that it will take 24 hours for them to show up on your card. I didn't know this, and didn't get 2 of my coupons (Crest ProHealth toothpaste, which would have been FREE and Gillette Shaving Gel, which would have been .89 cents)

That's it for now!

Christmas Wrap-Up

I just wanted to do a Christmas wrap-up for you, in case you are on pins and needles wondering how my Christmas went. ;) All I can say is - I'm glad it's over.

We went to 2 places on Christmas Eve. I procrastinated on wrapping gifts, so I was up until after midnight wrapping gifts for the next day's rounds. So that left DH to put out Santa gifts. When he got done, it looked like a Toys R Us had exploded inside our living room. Never again, folks. We went way overboard this year. And I was too bleary-eyed to realize that DH had made a major boo-boo while putting the stuff out. He had put out two toys for Princess that I was going to take back, due to bad reviews online. I had bought something else to take their place, and he put that out, too! I didn't realize it until the kids were up the next morning. So it looked like Santa was extra nice to Princess. (I still have not let Princess open the gifts that I wanted to take back. I tried to tell her that they got bad reviews. She told me that maybe Santa made HERS perfect! What can I say to that???)

So I go to bed at 1:00 AM. All I can think about is what all I have to do the next day. Or rather, that day. So I lay awake for 2 hours. I got maybe 2 hours sleep before having to get up to cook baked beans at 5:00 AM. The kids were up at 6:00 to look at their toys. Then we had to rush and get ready and leave at 7:30 to get to my grandmother's house an hour and a half away.

Then we had lots of family drama there. My cousin's wife filed for divorce, and they have 3 children. The kids had to leave at 11:00 to go to their mom's Christmas. Everyone was crying. This is the first divorce in our family. It is so hard. Then my dad was a Grinch as usual. My aunt was mean to my grandmother. I finally left at 5:00 PM when my aunt and mom were fighting about the auto-bailout and the Union. 'Nuff said.

We get a reprieve until Saturday night for another Christmas. DH's mom kisses and hugs everyone when we get there. I later find out she is sick as a dog. And then I find out half the people there are sick. Come on, people! Why can't we wait a few days until everyone is WELL and do this thing?? So, of course, Prince gets sick two days later.

I had some drama with my mom two days after Christmas about next year's Christmas. I don't really want to talk about it. Just know that I was ready to run away from home.

So it's over. Finally. I wish I could say that I had a wonderful Christmas. But it just wasn't wonderful. If next year is like this year, I may need meds to get me through it. Sad, but true.

This wraps up my Depressing Christmas Posts. I am praying 2009 is a much better year for me. I am even thinking of starting a brand new blog to signify the beginning of a fresh, new start for me. Stay tuned.

Are we having fun yet?

Huh? Are we? Seriously.

I told my sis this morning that I wish I could just go back to bed, cover up, and tell someone to wake me when Christmas is over. My attitude sucks bad this Christmas. I think I am going to celebrate Jesus' birthday after Christmas. Do you think that would be okay? I mean, since we don't really know when He was born anyway, would it hurt His feelings if I waited a few days after Dec. 25th to celebrate Him?? (sigh)

Today I baked. I baked:

* Peanut Butter Balls
* Peppermint Meltaway Cookies
* Chocolate Haystacks
* Pecan Balls (or Wedding Cookies)
* Cornflake Clusters

I had bought all the stuff to make cut-out Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing. But I think I'm going to have to wait until after Christmas to make them. I even went to Michael's late last night to buy meringue powder, icing colors, and a pastry sheet to roll them out on! LOL!

I have not wrapped one single present yet. I am going to start tonight. I won't have much time tomorrow because we have 2 Christmas's to go to starting at 11:00 AM tomorrow and ending tomorrow night. Then up early Christmas morning to travel to my grandmother's. Whew! I'm worn out just thinking about it!!

I am terribly sorry for all of my depressing Christmas posts so far. I truly hope everyone who is reading this is having a wonderful Christmas season, is totally in the Christmas spirit, and has a beautiful Christmas! Hey, who knows? Maybe I'll come and post here after Christmas, saying how wonderful my Christmas was! :)

Christmas Open House

I am posting pictures of my Christmas decorations in response to my friend Sonia's Christmas Open House on her blog. I only decorated our Christmas tree, the mantle, and the black iron railing of our dining room this year. I will post some pictures of my favorite ornaments later! :)
